Sex-for-Mark Professor Remains In Prison

Sex for mark Professor Richard Akindele formerly of Management and Accountancy Department, Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU) Ile-Ife is to remain in prison till November 27 2018 when his bail application will be considered and trial begins.

This was the ruling today by Justice M.A Oyetenu of court 1 at the Federal High Court, Osogbo when the case involving dismissed Professor Akindele and his former student, Monica Osagie, came up for mention.

Akindele was arraigned at the Federal High Court by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on a four point count charge bothering on corrupt practices and related offences as contained in Sections 8(1) (a) (ii), and 18 (d) of the Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Act 2000 punishable under the Law.
The Accused pleaded not guilty to all the  charges while the defence attorney a team  of three lawyers led by Mr. F. Omotosho made oral application for his bail.
The Court however insisted that an affidavit be filed in regards to the Bail Application.
The counsel to ICPC Mr. Kehinde Adetoye in his argument objected the oral application and the court ruled that Professor Akindele remains at the prison custody pending his bail application.
The matter was adjourned to November 27,  2018 for the bail application to be brought to court and argued while his formal trial will commence.
It would be recalled that the former OAU Lecturer was last April found guilty of the accusation of demanding sex for marks by a  sex-for -marks panel set up by the University Governing Council and he was subsequently dismissed.
Akindele was alleged by Ms Monica Osagie a Masters Student in the Department, to have requested for five rounds of sex to change a failed subject to pass.
Counsel to Osagie, Dr Abiola Akinyode-Afolabi had narrated how Professor Akindele demanded for sex favour from her client saying, “Monica actually passed the course as assessed by the University; but Prof. Akindele wanted her to agree to his proposition, so he was blackmailing her so that she could succumb to him”.
