CoS, Abba Kyari dies, for Burial Today
Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari dies and his remains is for burial today, Saturday.
Abba Kyari our Correspondent learnt died from complications of the COVID-19 24-days after testing positive to the disease and his remains is expected to be taken from the Lagos hospital to Borno State for burial.
Healthstyleplus reliably gathered that the late CoS died in a high brow Cardiology Hospital in Lagos, where he was managed for complications arising from his underlying diabetic condition.
His condition it was learnt, degenerated a few days ago due to his age. He was in his 70s.
Medical experts have warned against the survival chances of COVID-19 infected patients with co-morbidity non-communicable diseases (NCDs); conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, sickle-cell disorders among others.
The news break of the death of Abba Kyari was twitted by the Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity), Femi Adesina.
The twit read in part:
“The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.
The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.May God accept his soul.
Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly”
Until his death, there had been speculations over which facility the CoS was receiving treatment in Lagos after he wrote in his now famous last Statement: “I hope to be back at my desk soon” that he had made his private arrangement to transfer to Lagos.
He wrote: “I am writing to let you know that on medical advice, I will transfer to Lagos later today for additional tests and observation. This is a precautionary measure: I feel well, but last week, I tested positive for coronavirus, the pandemic that is sweeping the world. I have followed all the protocols government has announced to self-isolate and quarantine.
I have made my own care arrangements to avoid further burdening the public health system, which faces so many pressures.”
Healthstyleplus gathered that the late CoS was actually managed at a Cardiology Facility at Ikoyi, Lagos until he passed away, Friday night.
Late Kyari had tested positive to COVID-19 on March 23, nine days after he returned from a trip to Germany on March 9, 2020.
Not much is publicly known about the early life of Late Kyari.
He was however known to have graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Warwick and also received a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Cambridge and called to the Nigerian Bar in 1983 after he attended the Nigerian Law School.
In 1984, he obtained a Masters degree in law from the University of Cambridge.
He later attended the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland and participated in the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School, in 1992 and 1994, respectively.
He became the Chief of Staff to President Buhari in 2015 and remained so till his death, Friday April 17, 2020.
