The reported outbreak of Yellow Fever in Kwara State by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) appears surprising to many because it’s been a while the public has been bothered about the disease.
But officials of NCDC have warned that the viral hemorrhagic disease could become a public health threat if adequate attention is not paid by the public. Hence it has put up some information for public consumption.
Facts About Yellow Fever:
- Yellow Fever is transmitted by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito.
- Most of those infected do not often show symptoms and so are said to be asymptomatic.
- Treatment is not specific for Yellow Fever but there is need for a good and supportive treatment of symptoms such as dehydration, fever and infections which obviously improves survival rates.
