Our Correspondent observed that while some parents and guardians complied with the School Management’s instruction that students return with new matresses, a few others who said they couldnt bring down matresses due to distance, were seen making purchases from some businessmen who brought vehicles loaded with matreeses ad pillows to the School gate.

Some traders were also seen displaying treated mosquitoe nets and 5ltr kegs for sale at N1500 and N500 each to parents some of who made quick purchases for their wards.

Parents who spoke to Healthstyplus Online expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for coming to the support of the School in ensurring that the needed standard to keep the legacy of the school was kept.

Mrs. Onyekwe said, “It is a relief to see an end to the nearly 70 days of trauma. It is also unfotunate that we have lost souls of innocent children to such a preventable incident. I pray such will never hapen again in any School in Nigeria”.

For Mrs Ogundele, “I believe God has sent a message to us in this School never to take anything for granted. Although this isno time to continue to lay blames but we plead with the Federal Ministry of Education to urgentl;y look into the plight of all Unity Schools across the country and do the utmost needful. We can no longer play th eOstrich with lives of our future generation whereby you send them to School and you are not sure of their return.

She lamented that government have abandoned the responsibility of caring for the welbeing on Nigerians and rather, politicize everything including children education.

Head Girl,  Ngozi Onwunze expressed satisfaction with the new development in the school; “Especially, the openness of our new Principal,  Mrs Bola Are. We have learnt to call her Granma because she is just sweet and we know from what we have seen now that Queens College would  be better than it was before the epidemic that ravaged it.

“While I can’t blame anyone over what happened, I can say that communication and relationship between the students and grandma – Mrs Are -is like that of mother and child. We have easy access to her and we can air our views without any restriction.  So, despite my completion of my studies in QC,  the students are in safe hands”, said Onwunze..

Speaking with Our Correspondent, the Principal, Mrs. Are said the School Management has requested that all parents who want to retrieve the old matresses of their children should come  for them by Saturday May 5 failure of which all such matresses would be burnt.

“This is because we are mindful of the fact that most of these foams have been infested with bed bugs and since we have fumigated all the rooms and hostel environment, we do not want any re-infection”, said Are.
