Despite the submission by a panel of enquiry indicting the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)Mallam Usman Yusuf of corrupt practices, his suspension by the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole last June has been quashed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
President Buhari it was gathered overruled the suspension of Yusuf in a letter sent to Professor Adewole this afternoon (Tuesday).
Healthstyleplus Online confirmed the news which was first reported by Premium Times from the Director of Media and Communication, Mrs. Boade Akinola.
Major stakeholder in the Health Insurance Management, Health and Managed Care Association of Nigeria (HMCAN) director of publicity, Mr. Lekan Ewenla told our Correspondent, “We are aware of the development and privy to the said letter of recall. The Association is already studying the situation and it’s implication and would appropriately make our position known soonest”, Ewenla told Healthstyleplus Online.
Details of Yusuf’s terms of recall including resumption date is yet to be made known but he is advised to work closely with the Minister on resumption.
It would be recalled that the embattled NHIS Executive Secretary has been in the heart of several allegations from stakeholders in the industry who alleged among other issues, incompetence in driving the system, fraudulent activity and nepotism.
He was placed on suspension by the Health Minister last June and after a commissioned panel found him culpable of the numerous allegations, his suspension was placed on indefinite period.
