Nine Candidates for Ogun Governorship Debate

Nine Candidates are participating in Ogun Governorship Debate holding today, Tuesday, January 29 at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta.

The debate tagged “OGUN WOMEN DECIDE” is organised by Voice of Ogun Women (VOW) a gender based non-governmental organisation and have the candidates of African Action Congress AAC- Princess Eniola Otasanya-Martins, YES-Mr. Adesina Kawonise, Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party, ANRP-Mr. Adewale Omoniyi, ADC-Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI), APM-Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade(AAA) and Action Democratic Party, ADP, Dimeji Bankole participating.

Others who have also confirmed their participation at the governorship debate are the All Progressive Congress APC-Dapo Abiodun, Social Democratic Party, SDP-Rotimi Paseda and and Peoples Democratic Party PDP-Buruji Kashamu.

The candidate of Zenith Labour Party, ZLP-Segun Odegbami asked to be excused from the debate.

According to VOW, every indigene particularly women of Ogun State are interested in engaging with whoever wishes to occupy the all-important seat of the chief driver and security officer.

Convener of VOW, Doyinsola Ogunbiyi noted in a Press Statement signed by Chairman, Publicity Committee, Mrs. Funke Fadugba, “the aim was to properly empower women with necessary information to enable them take informed decision at the polling centre”.

She said the association is not for socials but for promotion of positive gender issues.
The Ogun Governorship candidates are expected to sign a charter with the women group on gender issues of education, health, maternal health etc

We hunger and thirst for the development of Ogun State to rob off on Women and by extension on families.

We are convinced that Women deliver results hence to achieve tangible and qualitative and quantitative development progress in Ogun State .

Women must participate in all aspect of governance in Ogun State to achieve this.

Women participation at all levels and agencies must not be less than 40%.

-We want families to be adequately catered for especially in the following measurable areas:

-Affordable housing

-Affordable and well equipped health facilities.

-All multi tax burdens on Women must be removed.

-Women must be respected and not as political tools.

-We are concerned about the general exploitation  of women in political seasons as just praise singers rather than women occupying decision making  offices and much more.
