The Calabar Port Manager, Nigerian Ports Authority, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Olotu has been honoured by the executive management of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) with a Leadership Merit Award of Excellence for her Persuasive Marketing Skills in attracting 200m Flat-bottom vessels to Calabar Port in spite of the port’s draft limitations.
Olotu was one of the awardees at the NPA Long Service/Merit Award 2017 which was held recently.
Olotu was honoured for her efforts at initiating a trade alliance with Atlantic Bulk Carrier Management Limited, a Greek organisation whose four vessels berth at Calabar Port between October and November 2017.
According to experts, Calabar Port had prior to now been limited by the draft of its channel and had been labeled unattractive to shippers despite its location at the opening to the North-Eastern and South-Eastern flanks of Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
Mrs Olotu was also commended for efforts which saw the initiation of the export of bulk cement from the Port to Tema, Ghana every fortnight.
In 2002, Olotu had emerged “Best Officer of the Port” in Tin Can Island Port Lagos for recovering N27m for the Authority.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Olotu expressed her appreciation to the Executive Management of NPA led by Hadiza Bala Usman for the opportunity to serve and restated her commitment to the pursuit of the Authority’s objectives.
Olotu is a 1986 product of Ogun State University (now, Olabisi Onabanjo University),Ago Iwoye first set and holds Masters degrees from University of Lagos, Akoka.
